Skin Cancer

I went to the dermatologist for a skin exam last week.  He found a suspicious spot on the back of my right shoulder.  He was able to cut it out right then.  He said it was likely a basal cell carcinoma.  If you have to get cancer, that is the one you want.  It is slow growing and almost never metastasizes.

He got the pathology report today and it was indeed basal cell carcinoma.  The bad news is that it was deeper than expected.  Now I get to have surgery to remove a larger and deeper area.  It will leave a nice scar, but as anyone who has seen my body it won't be a problem.  My days as a shirtless supermodel are over.

  1. Heart virus, chicken pox, skin cancer...what's next on the line up? Hope the surgery goes well. Scott's skin cancer is on his right temple. When you were a teenager, did you ever wish your zits were on your elbow instead of your face so you could hide them with your sleeve? I did. Anyway, you must have wished hard enough to get your cancer hidden. That's my poor attempt at seeing the bright side of things. No more medical ailments, okay?

  2. That is one area where I was lucky. I never had acne as a teenager. This cancer is almost always on the face from the upper lip to the head. I of course break the odds and get it on my back. For once, it was a good thing!
